US sailors lead the way
North American Optimist Dinghy championships continued in the Great Sound yesterday.
Shifting winds wreaked havoc on the fleet as the young sailors dashed about looking for clean air.
The youngest and lightest took advantage of what little wind there was before the fourth race was called off.
Unofficial standings had Storck leading Lovelace and fellow American Graham Mergenthaler. His sister, Kaitlin Storck, jumped six places to fourth place helped by a first, a third and an eighth place.
Fellow American Edward DuMoulin rose three places to fifth on the strength of two top ten finishes.
Bermudian Alexander Kirkland continues to lead the local fleet, but dropped from fourth to eighth position.
Racing continues today at 2.00 p.m. in the Great Sound with the closing ceremony and prize presentation at 7.00 p.m. at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.
