Duo face $860,000 heroin charge

In court: Paul Smith (left) and Kendrick Zuill (centre) were charged yesterday with conspiring to import $860,000 worth of heroin.

Allegations of involvement in an $860,000 heroin importation plot landed two men in court yesterday.

Kendrick Zuill, 33, and Paul Smith, 51, are alleged to have conspired together and with others not before the courts to bring the drugs to Bermuda.

According to prosecutor Robert Welling, the case centres around the "controlled delivery" of a DHL package that contained the heroin before it was intercepted by the authorities.

The conspiracy is said to have been hatched between a date unknown and April 26 this year.

Neither Zuill, of Deepdale, Pembroke, nor Smith, of East Shore Road, Sandys, was required to enter a plea as the matter must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Zuill into custody and released Smith on $100,000 bail. The men must return to court on June 15 for an administrative hearing.
