We are proud to be Bailey’s Bay descendants that helped to build the sailing ship Queen of Bailey’s Bay and her subsequent dedication.The launching of the Harvest Queen in 1860 was celebrated by her owners, designers, and helpers until the wee hours of the morning which included a festive gala for Bailey’s Bay families.An ‘Eagle Plaque’ was erected on the bow of the proud ship. Cherokee descendants of Bailey’s Bay were proud of their heritage and used the symbol of the eagle feather worn by Native Indians for centuries.Seven years ago, late reporter Beverley Causey Smith, told me that a movie should be made of the Harvest Queen. I wholeheartedly agreed. Businessman Yeaton Outerbridge could have been the captain and his four sons could act as the crew members. Interest is genuine in Hamilton Parish and many sponsors would be prepared to help, including two Rhode Scholars, etc.Late Captain Henry Hollis at 22 years of age, helped to make history in 1860 by his bravery aboard the Harvest Queen.Dr Harris, as ‘Dean of Maritime History’ in beautiful Bermuda, Sir, you are a humble ‘Dr Emeritus’, giving a ‘lift’ to all Bermudians of all classes and all races.
