Bermuda Endowment for the Arts donates $3,000 to school music programmes
The Menuhin Foundation's efforts to bring music to schoolchildren Island-wide, has been recognised with a $3,000 donation from Bermuda Endowment for the Arts (BEA).
Trustees of the BEA joined the Menuhin Foundation's Saturday Centre recently to watch the children rehearse and present the donation. "The Menuhin Foundation was selected as this year's recipient because of the valuable role it plays in bringing music to Bermuda's schoolchildren, primarily through its Schools Programme which offers free lessons in Bermuda's Government primary schools," said Connie Dey, of the BEA.
Judy Gibbons accepted the cheque on behalf of the trustees of The Menuhin Foundation. She expressed grateful thanks to the BEA for selecting the foundation to receive the annual donation.
"The BEA was formed in 2000 by a group of women who enjoyed the performing arts," said Mrs. Dey. "They became concerned about the lack of funding available to help talented individuals further their education, or organisations engaged in training up-and-coming performers in these arts.
"They raised money for an endowment fund and have subsequently selected worthy recipients for an annual donation."
The Menuhin Foundation, a registered charity, was formed in 1976 and believes that every child in Bermuda has the right to learn a musical instrument and to benefit from the social and intellectual skills this can bring. The Foundation has touched the lives of thousands of Bermuda's children through its various programmes.
