However, on another online community, Facebook, popular with young Bermudians, a group has been started asking people to try and stop gun violence on the Island.
The group was started on Thursday and is called "The Saga Will Continue, Let's Stop It Now" and its aim is to save future generations of Bermudians.
It states: "Their will always be a generation of children with no fathers and mothers because (of) unsolved crimes... What are we willing to do for our children? They will become our new MPs, bankers, police officers, school teachers, soldiers, preachers etc... Our willing to forget the past like it does not exist!!!!!! Do WE need EX-cons as our future... Let's get a hold on OUR FUTURE!
"Leaders, IT CAN NOT BE TOLERATED AND WE CAN NOT GIVE UP ON OUR HOME..."
The group's creator added: "We need real resolution — talking about it is taboo so, let's create some solutions before inviting new problems." Some of the problems listed include: "murders, unsolved crimes, mysterious accidents".
Lawyer Charles Richardson, who famously studied for a law degree while locked up for a gun related offence, was the first to discuss the topic.
He said: "We need to put our obvious talents to use right now. Here on Facebook some of Bermuda's best intellectual talent from both sides of the racial and social fence voice their views. Currently we have a problem in this community with a culture of gun violence.
"If ever we are going to be Bermudians together — putting aside all differences — it must be now.
"We need suggestions people! We need ideas for viable solutions! This cannot continue. Bermuda will cease to be the Island we love if we don't act now.
"Lets put our heads together and brainstorm... right here on Facebook... with a view to developing some strategy for reducing the gun culture here in Bermuda.
"I think that the time has come to consider giving the police wider powers of search and seizure with respect to firearms... another well advertised amnesty coupled with peer pressure to comply might be viable as well in the short term... views anybody?"
As of press time, however, no one had taken up his plea.
