Tributes were paid yesterday to a 24-year-old man who died four days after a motorbike accident.

Roger Pitcher suffered head injuries on Thursday, November 30, when he lost control of his motorcycle heading east on Kindley Field Road near Stonecrusher Corner according to the Bermuda Police.

Mr. Pitcher had worked at Marine and Ports for two years where staff were hoping for good news about their colleague?s hoped-for recovery.

Most co-workers learned of his death on Sunday when they came to work yesterday morning.

His supervisor Terry Spencer said: ?It was a shock. A shock to us all.

?He was a very dedicated individual. Someone you could rely on. We were very fond of Roger. He will be missed.?

Mr. Pitcher was a Leading Seaman on one of the Island?s fast ferries and on Thursday colleagues will honour him with a moment of silence.

Meanwhile Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash that took his life.

According to police, the accident is especially difficult to piece together because Mr. Pitcher did not collide with any other vehicle near the bend in the road just outside the fences of the Bermuda International Airport.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to contact the St. George?s Police Department with information.

Mr. Pitcher?s death is the 12th traffic fatality this year ? one less than last year?s toll of death on the roads. The highest total in recent history was 17 deaths in 1998.
