Reserve Police officer run over
A Reserve Police officer escaped serious injury despite being run over during a vehicle stop check.
A Police spokesman said the car was stopped by officers around 3.10 a.m yesterday after they spotted it being driven in an erratic manner on Church Street, Hamilton.
"While officers conducted checks on the vehicle the driver, a 27-year-old Sandy's parish man, started the car and drove off heading east on Church Street. One of the officers attempted to disable the car by turning off the ignition, but was dragged to the ground.
"The car then rolled over the officer's right leg before speeding away," said the spokesman.
The officer was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for road rash and a superficial injury to his right knee before being released.
The car was impounded by the Police after being found abandoned in Pembroke.
Motorcycle rider hurt
A motorcyclist suffered a broken hip when his bike collided with a parked car in what is suspected to be a case of drink-driving.
Police said the incident occurred around 12.30 a.m on Mangrove Bay Road, Sandys.
The car was parked outside the Bank of Bermuda ATM machine when the bike hit it from behind.
The injured rider, a 34-year-old from Sandys, was taken to the hospital by ambulance and later arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. He was said to be in a stable condition on a general ward yesterday. The occupants of the car were unhurt.
Knife charge denied
A young man studying abroad will go on trial for alleged weapon possession when he is next back in Bermuda on vacation.
Kershon Burt, 19, is accused of illegally possessing a knife in Court Street on December 29.
Burt, of Friswells Road, Pembroke, pleaded not guilty when he appeared at Magistrates' Court on Monday.
His trial was set for June 2.
Man nearly lost nose
A man almost lost his nose in an attack on December 22, Magistrates' Court has heard.
The information was revealed by a prosecutor as the man accused of the attack on Dennis Moore appeared before the court on Monday.
Dwayne Hayward, 28, of no fixed abode, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and possessing a machete in Cedar Avenue, Pembroke. He was not required to enter a plea as the matter will be dealt with in the Supreme Court.
Crown counsel Larissa Burgess told the court: "The complainant sustained serious damage to his face, and underwent treatment to re-attach his nose."
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted Hayward $3,000 bail, and ordered him to appear before the court again on January 14.
