Centre of Justice launches library and online resource site

The Centre for Justice has launched an in-house legal library — as well as an online site giving summaries of significant human rights and constitutional cases.

Director Venous Memari said the service would prove especially useful for lay people in researching the law and tracking down relevant international treaties and conventions.

“For members of the public who are not lawyers, this should be valuable information,” she said.

“At times, the law can be daunting to the non-lawyer, and yet it is our system of justice that protects our rights. We believe that access to and understanding of our legal system is essential to protect human rights and access to justice.”

Setting up the legal resources had been a “major initiative”, she said. The information can be accessed via the Centre for Justice’s website, www.justice.bm.

Cases can be called up by their date, topic and name, and the material will be updated regularly.

The Centre’s law library is also open to the public between 10am and 4pm at its office in The Armoury Building, Reid Street. Books may not be loaned out, but copies are permitted.
