Mock attacks part of security exercise
extensive security exercise this weekend that will include mock attacks, boat landings and the protection of key point areas around the Island.
The exercise begins tonight at 7 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. tomorrow. The Regiment will be embodied for the exercise.
The public can expect to see troops around the Bermuda Electric Light Company and Government House. There will be a lot of activity in the East End, especially around the South Side, St. David's and the former US Navy Air Station. In Ferry Reach on Saturday there will be boat landings and over the course of the weekend there will be a mock riot.
The joint forces exercise is being carried out to test internal security procedures and the public should not be alarmed if they see large numbers of troops or Police Officers.
The second annual Bermuda Regiment Paint Ball Games raised a total of $8,000, with $2,000 put toward the recently inaugurated Bermuda Regiment Continuing Education Awards, with the remaining $6,000 going toward STAR and Focus.
STAR is a charity that offers support and therapy for AIDS sufferers and their families, Focus Counselling Services offers support for recovering addicts.
Lt. Col. D.A. Burch, Commanding Officer of the Regiment, sanctioned the July Games which were organised by Regiment staff. The Senior Permanent Staff Group chose the charities.
