Photographer's art across the oceans

Local photographer Roland Skinner has had "three nice hits'' in the last couple of months, with his images appearing in the New York Times , Golf magazine and the latest issue of upscale publication, Worth magazine. Mr.

Skinner picked up the latest issue of Worth a few days ago while abroad and was excited to see his photographs of Dennis Kozlowski's 130-foot J-boat Endeavour . "I knew they were going to use them, but they didn't tell me when,'' said Mr. Skinner. Endeavour is a very rare yacht, being one of only three in the world. Mr. Skinner spent a few hours aboard creating his images, from which the main photograph of Mr. Kozlowski and his crew came. Mr.

Kozlowski is the CEO of the Bermuda-based company Tyco International. The J-boat, with its majestic 165-foot single mast, is the definition of power and grace. Ten were built to race in the America's Cup in the 1930s but most were abandoned during World War II and ransacked for their lead. Mr. Kozlowski purchased Endeavour in 1999 from connoisseur Elizabeth Meyer after she pumped $10 million into restoration of the skeleton she found in 1984. Mr. Skinner also had seven pictures featured last month in a two-page spread in the travel section of the New York Times on eco-Bermuda, including photos of the Paget Marsh, Nonsuch Island and Fort Hamilton. Then his aerial shot of the fifth hole at Mid Ocean made the pages of Golf magazine when they dedicated a two-page spread to the best 18 holes in the world. "That's three nice hits in the last couple of months,'' said a pleased Mr. Skinner. "They are major publications so it's always nice when you see them (photos) published. When you do them you don't know if they are going to be published or not.'' Smooth sailing: Roland Skinner's picture of Dennis Kozlowski's Endeavour which appeared in Worth Magazine.
