Skit aims to educate about teeth
toothpaste, uncrushable tubes and fancy pumps, Mrs. Irene Seaton is only happy to tell you.
"We used to go out and get wild weed which grew flat to the earth and had a little orange flower,'' the senior explained. "We used to put it on a cloth and brush our teeth that way and then rinse.'' But that wasn't all. The powdered lime which was put into tanks to purify the water also purified the teeth, Mrs. Seaton said.
Although a bad experience put her off going to the dentist for years, today she believes in taking good care of her teeth -- including getting professional attention.
"It's not only for personality but health reasons,'' she said of her reformation.
In fact, Mrs. Seaton's advice to other seniors is: "Look after your teeth.
Instead of pulling them out, these days you can always get something done with them.'' To further get the Dental Health Week message across, a skit will be performed by a group of seniors which includes Mrs. Seaton.
The cast includes Mrs. Joan Dismont, Mrs. Pearline Richardson, Mr. Dudley Johnson and Mrs. Ruth Hayward.
They will perform in the Admiralty House ballroom on Monday, May 9, and again at Cathedral Hall on May 13.
"We are going to have a great time,'' Mrs. Seaton promised.
