Walk held to remember former Agape patients
Relatives and friends of former Agape House patients recently joined together for a walk in memory of their loved ones.
An annual event, it was sponsored by Friends of Hospice (FoH), a charity established to provide funds and volunteer services for Agape House, Bermuda's only dedicated hospice.
Employees from TeleBermuda International Ltd. (TBI) participated as well, part of the company's long-term commitment to the community and to Agape House in particular.
In addition to this recent undertaking, TBI staff have held denim days in aid of Agape House. Total funds raised are to be matched by the company and presented to FoH in January.
"TBI's social committee has scheduled denim days to help fund improvements to furnishings in rooms and common areas at Agape House, providing a brighter and warmer reception for relatives and friends who visit patients," explained a TBI spokesperson.
FoH fundraising and volunteer coordinator Erica Fulton said she was "elated" to learn that TBI supported the important work staff and volunteers are doing at Agape House.
TBI employee Stacey Leverock spoke of her own belief in the work done by the charity.
"My father's lifestyle led him to being diagnosed with throat cancer and eventually it spread, causing his tongue to swell over his last year of life, when his breathing became extremely difficult," she said. "Nursing staff at Agape House were very accommodating, allowing his grandchildren, who were young in age, the ability to visit freely."
Because her father received "excellent care" from both Agape House and PALS during his illness, Ms Leverock said she was happy to assist with both charities in any way she could.
