Franks: Cougars will take one final at a time
Devonshire Cougars defender Kijuan Franks is adamant that his side won't get carried away with the tasks that lie ahead of them starting this weekend in the Friendship final against North Village at the National Sports Centre (NSC).Cougars will be involved in the last two matches of the season including next week's FA Cup final against Southampton Rangers, a title the Big Cats currently hold. With big games come added pressure, something that Franks is playing down. The big defender, instead, is pointing at the opening exchanges as crucial, with the winner being the side who can settle down the quickest,“We have approached the game as if it was any other game. We can't put too much emphasis or any needed pressure on ourselves,” said Franks.“It is important for us to settle down early, I wouldn't say we need to score an early goal, but if we can settle quickly then we should be ok.”An early goal would be nice but if we can get into the rhythm of the game early then we can play our style of football. With the side involved in two finals, and the bigger one still to come next week, Franks insists that both games are as important as the other, and both will be tackled with the same thought and determination.Cougars will need to beat defending champions Rams for the first time this season if they are to exact revenge for their Dudley Eve final loss to the same side, not that Franks minds the challenge that lies ahead.Cougars have lost their four encounters against Village this campaign.“This is one of two finals and we just want to play this game to its merit and not let the talk of the FA Cup come into play,” he said.“Obviously both are big games, but you can't play both games at the same time, so we will focus on what is in front of us. This week is this week and whatever happens next week happens.“The difference between the winner and loser will be execution in front of goal, ball possession and whoever does the better of the two will come out champions.”
