BERMUDA QUALIFIES FOR WORLD CUP

Janeiro Tucker scored 132 runs and Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock took four wickets as Bermuda defeated the USA in the ICC Trophy and qualified for the cricket World Cup in 2007.

Acting captain Tucker helped Bermuda to a commanding 311-8 total and the US fell 113 runs short when Bermuda bowled them out in 36.2 overs.

With Denmark losing by 73 runs to group leaders Ireland, Bermuda automatically qualifiied for the World Cup, to be held in the West Indies.

Tucker rescued Bermuda's innings at Warringstown after coming in at number six when Bermuda were reeling at 88-4.

Tucker joined Irving Romaine at the wicket and the pair scored 62 runs in a fifth wicket partnership before Romaine was caught by M. Johnstone off the bowling of B Bartley on 44.

Tucker then teamed up with wicketkeeper Dean Minors for a massive 118-run sixth wicket partnership before Minors was caught by Romero off the bowling of Steve Massia for 41.

Tucker continued to smash the ball, taking the total to 311 while Lionel Cann (6) and Chris Foggo (2 not out) played supporting roles before he was caught by I Awan off N Javed for his total of 132.

USA got off to a brisk start, reaching 61-3 with a good run rate before Leverock struck, getting the prized wicket of Steve Massiah who was caught by Minors on 26 with the score at 84-4

Former West Indies test player Clayton Lambert then came to the crease and with Romero took the Americans to 125 when Romero was cauht by Ryan Steede off Leverock on 30. Lambert was Leverock's next victim, again caught by Minors on 33 with 165 runs on the board.

Bartley then scored a fighting 52, but with the seventh and eighth wickets falling, it was in a losing cause, with Bermuda winning by 113 runs as the US were all out for 198 in 36.2 overs.

Top bowler for the USA, who won the toss and put Bermuda in to bat, was R. Staple, who took one wicket for 45 runs off his ten overs. M. Johnston took three catches.

But the US suffered from wayward bowling, giving up 41 extras, including five byes, five leg byes, 14 no balls and a remarkable 27 wides.
