Bermuda Weekly bought by Island Press
future of the tourist publication soon.
Mr. Warren Brown, president of the Island Press, said the company bought the 39-year-old newspaper from owner Mr. Bryan Darby about two months ago.
"It is too early to announce anything yet (on changes),'' noted Mr. Brown, adding that details could be announced in the next week.
Mr. Darby, former publisher, sole shareholder and the only employee of Bermuda Weekly Ltd., sold the publication after a ten-year ownership. The selling price was undisclosed but when Mr. Darby indicated in early August that the publication was up for sale, the asking price was $200,000, according to an article in the Royal Gazette .
"The new owner approached me,'' he said. "Both sides were happy with the sale.'' Prior to ownership by Mr. Darby, the Bermuda Weekly was in the hands of Mr.
Peter Beckett for about a decade.
Mr. Chummy Zuill started the operation about 40 years ago and oversaw its operations for about 20 years.
Due to time contraints, Mr. Darby was unable to issue a summer edition this year. The newspaper was redesigned with a full colour cover and back page several years ago.
