Outerbridge to leave Trust for post at XL

After 10 years as the executive director of the Bermuda National Trust, Amanda Outerbridge is set to move on to another chapter of her life. Starting on August 1, Ms Outerbridge will resume the post of Managing Editor/Publisher of Publications at insurance giant XL Capital.

The Trust is a non-profit organisation with a legislated mandate to preserve Bermuda's heritage. With 70 properties under its ownership, the Trust is Bermuda's largest private land owner. They include 30 historic buildings, three museums and 250 acres of open space. Programmes operated by the Trust include environmental research and action, publications on the Island's heritage and history, and a cultural tourism programme.

"We are sorry that Amanda is moving on. She personifies the Trust and all its ideals," Trust president Wayne Jackson said yesterday. "Amanda's complete grasp of the Trust's mandate, her sensitivity to the forces impacting it and her skilful management style leave an indelible mark on our organisation."

Ms Outerbridge, who has 10 years' experience in the journalism field, said she was looking forward to beginning a new endeavour at XL. "The position at XL was irresistible and will enable me to use my journalistic experience... I feel very lucky to be given this opportunity to work for a company the calibre of XL."

And she nothing but praises for her former employer.

"The Trust is an incredibly diverse and interesting organisation... I have so enjoyed being involved for the last 10 years. Bermuda is fortunate that visionaries in our community started this opportunity back in 1937," Ms Outerbridge said.
