Cox eyes run at Sandys South

Former Premier: Paula Cox

About ten Progressive Labour Party members have expressed interest in running for the recently-vacated seat of Sandys South, according to a party source — including former Premier Paula Cox.

Constituency 33 was last month relinquished by Independent MP Terry Lister, who won there under the PLP banner in 2012.

The deadline for nominations for the November 18 by-election is in 20 days’ time.

The slim parliamentary majority of the ruling One Bermuda Alliance, at 19 seats to the PLP’s 17, has drawn speculation as to who the OBA might have in reserve to contest a constituency that has long stood as a PLP bastion.

As of last night, an OBA source said: “The One Bermuda Alliance will be announcing our candidate shortly.

“In the meantime, voters are urged to ensure their registration details are up to date, which can be done online at www.elections.gov.bm or at the Office of the Parliamentary Registrar on the third floor, Craig Appin Building, No 8 Wesley Street.”
