A picture is worth a thousand words

Cartoonist Peter Woolcock has been drawing satirical cartoons for more years than he probably cares to remember.

But can you do it? Today The Royal Gazette is launching a competition for people to demonstrate their artistic and satirical skills by drawing a cartoon that best portrays the need for freedom of information laws in Bermuda.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and that is what the satirical cartoonist is good at: telling a story easily — and importantly funnily — with a picture. Go on have a go — the winner will get a 4GB iPod nano and the runner-up will get a gift certificate from The Royal Gazette stationery store. We'll also publish the winning entry.

Entries should be sent to The Royal Gazette, on Par-La-Ville Road, addressed to The Editor, and clearly marked 'FOI competition'.

We also want to read what you think about the need for freedom of information laws on the Island.

It could be an example of getting nowhere when looking for information, it could be a way of using the laws or it could be a discussion on the merits of such laws.

Entries should be no more than 400 words and can be emailed to arighttoknow@royalgazette.bm clearly marked 'FOI competition', sent in the post to The Editor, The Royal Gazette, 2 Par-La-Ville Road, Hamilton, HM 08, clearly marked 'FOI competition', or dropped off at our offices.

Again, the winner will receive a 4GB iPod nano and the runner-up will get a gift certificate from The Royal Gazette stationery store.

The deadline for all entries is Friday, April 4. The Editor's decision is final.
