The Premier is not a blogger

Premier Alex Scott has expressed his concern at an ?unethical? blogger using his Government email address as a contact link on the increasingly popular website limeyinBermuda.com.

Searching through the site owned by columnist Phillip Wells yesterday, clicked on the hyper-link of a blogger who goes by the pen-name Tiger Bay ? only to discover that the email address listed for him was ascottgov.bm.

Any suggestion that the blogger in question was indeed the Honourable Premier himself was quickly dispelled, however, when it became clear that Tiger Bay is an opponent of Independence who has been highly critical of Mr. Scott on a range of issues.

Indeed, when contacted yesterday, Government Communications Director Beverle Lottimore confirmed that Mr. Scott is not of the blogging persuasion, promising to investigate the matter.

And last night, a Press statement was released on behalf of Mr. Scott by the Department of Communication and Information, accusing Tiger Bay of using the Premier?s email address to help springboard his arguments into the limelight.

?The Premier wishes to express his thanks to for bringing to his attention what can only be described as unprofessional and unethical behaviour by at least one subscriber to the website limeyinbermuda.com,? the statement read.

?It is obvious that the intent of the user, who has added the email address of the Premier to his own username on the back-end of a hyperlink, is to have his personal opinions spring-boarded into the political arena.

?However, hiding behind a screen name will not produce that result. This is badly chosen etiquette and while we are unable to find a disclaimer for such behaviour on the site, it is hoped that these activities are not condoned by owner, Mr. Phillip Wells.?

The statement concluded by revealing that to date the Premier has received no emails as a result of having his address on the site.

Government IT officers are also looking into installing software to filter any emails sent to the Premier as a result of this fraudulent listing.

Meanwhile, a somewhat bemused Mr. Wells expressed his disappointment last night that Government had decided to issue a Press statement rather than speak to him privately.

He also promised to post a warning on the site that he as owner is unable to verify that the identities of the contributors and their contact details are truthful.
