The island’s pandemic death toll has risen to 31, it was revealed at the weekend.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, said it was with “a heavy heart” that she announced the latest victim.

Ms Wilson added: “Our hearts and prayers go out to the loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.”

She said: ”The Ministry of Health will not release any personal details about the individual and I ask the public to respect the privacy of the family as they mourn their loved one.“

The death, announced on Saturday, came after a steady decline in the number of new cases and active infections.

The previous update recorded only two new coronavirus cases.

The number of active infections was said to be 309 – about a third of the 900-plus recorded at the peak of the last major outbreak.

There were 297 cases being monitored by public health officials and twelve in hospital on Friday, two of them in intensive care.

The island recorded 12 Covid-19 deaths in the year since the pandemic hit last March.

There have been 17 deaths linked to the disease since April 1.
