Miller battles to the end

in two sets by third seed Rian Grieves of Barbados in an exciting boys under-18 match at the Coca-Cola Junior International Tournament in St. Lucia on Tuesday.

Grieves, ranked 636th in the junior world rankings, had his big serve carry him through to a 6-3 triumph in the first set but Miller then settled down and after some long and thoughtful rallies got to set point on Grieves' serve at 6-5.

But it was not to be for the local who lost the set 7-6, going down 7-3 in the tie-breaker.

Miller now teams up with Mali Richards, son of the famous former West Indies cricket captain Viv Richards, to compete in the doubles.

In girls 12-and-under play, Zoe Fisher, Sasha Fisher and Kara Fisher, vacationing with their family, all moved through the main draw against St.

Lucian opposition.

Sasha plays the winner of Kara Fisher and Trinidad's number two ranked player Sarah Costelloe in one semi-final. And Zoe plays St. Lucia's number one ranked player Jessica Atkinson for a place in the other semi-final.

In girls 14-and-under competition, Bermuda's number two ranked Danielle Downey found Trinidad's number three seed Lisa Fung too hot to handle. Downey fell to the steady pace of her opponent 6-0, 6-1.

The tournament is part of the Junior Caribbean Circuit.

SQUASH STRUGGLES CONTINUE SQU Squash struggles continue Bermuda suffered more disappointment on day three of the Merrill Lynch World Junior Men's Team Squash Championships in Princeton, New Jersey, on Tuesday.

The youngsters were swept aside 3-0 by Zimbabwe with only Sam Stevens winning a game.

Stevens, who put up a 52-minute fight, eventually went down 5-9, 9-6, 9-2, 10-8.

Nick Kyme lost 9-6, 9-4, 9-6, while Michael Stout was defeated 9-1, 9-1, and 9-2.

Play resumes today.
