Local Fifa courses set
have the FIFA-Coca Cola Futuro Football Developing Programme take place in Bermuda.
FIFA has been running the courses throughout the world since 1991 and recently the Bermuda Football Association accepted an invitation to have it held here October 11-16 -- which was obviously an offer that was taken up without any hesitation.
The courses, which have been specifically designed to upgrade the administration, coaching, refereeing and sports medicine side of soccer -- will be conducted by four top instructors who FIFA will be sending to the island. The visit by these officials will be preceded by that made by a noted FIFA co-ordinator who will help the BFA draw up an itinerary for the course.
"We regard this programme as a tremendous opportunity for our club officials, coaches, sports medicine people and referees to upgrade their skills. It is something that can only benefit the sport of soccer here in Bermuda,'' said BFA president Charlie Marshall last night.
In bigger countries the courses has been limited to 25 during each session but Marshall was hoping that they will cater to more when it is held here in Bermuda.
He also hopes that courses can be arranged during the evenings to accommodate people who work during the day. The courses will be held at Stonington Beach Hotel.
Marshall said that FIFA were underwriting the entire programme themselves and consequently there will be no charge whatsoever to locals hoping to participate.
Further information regarding registration and times are expected to be announced by the BFA in due course, Marshall said.
