High speed chase has $600 sequel
motorcyclist refused to stop.
And when Ryan Scott Robinson finally gave himself up it was found that he had been drinking.
The chase, on September 4, started on Middle Road, in Sandys, and ended on Bob's Valley Road -- after hair-raising moments on the Railway Trail.
In Magistrates Court this week, Robinson, 19, of Broome Street, admitted driving while impaired by alcohol and failing to stop for the police.
Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, said Police were patrolling on Middle Road when they saw an auxiliary cycle travelling at high speed.
Sgt. Osborne said: "They followed the cycle and signalled that it should stop. When the Police officers flashed the cycle it continued to travel at high speed.
"It moved onto the Railway Trail and eventually stopped on Bob's Valley Road, where the defendant said that he had not stopped because he was frightened.
"His breath smelled of liquor and his speech was slurred and he was arrested.'' Robinson, a bar tender at a local hotel, said that a disqualification would cause him problems because he worked late at night and would not be able to get home easily.
But Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said that chase had involved a pretty risky piece of driving and that Robinson had to be disqualified for at least 12 months because of the driving while impaired charge.
Mr. Francis fined Robinson $200 for failing to stop, and $400 and a 12-month disqualification for driving while impaired.
