Tour de las Americas player Eric West tees off today at the $70,000 Chile Open in South America.

The 24-year old pro failed to make the cut at the Colombia Masters in Bogota in his previous outing but is confident of turning his fortunes around in Chile this week.

"My expectations this week will be the same as always; prepare to the best of my ability and let the good times roll," an upbeat West told The Royal Gazette. "Last week I felt like I was trying too hard and kind of over played the course.

"I just need to relax and play golf and I don't think I'm that far off from where I need to be."

By his own standards West has not enjoyed the best of times lately with the putter while back spasms haven't helped his cause either.

"There is a lot of stiffness but I have full mobility again so at least I'm not playing in pain anymore," he said. "Golf is a lot about striking while the iron is hot and playing well at the right time. I believe in my abilities and at age 24 I don't think I'm that far off from where I need to be."

Also competing today is former Nationwide Tour player Michael Sims (pictured, above) who is scheduled to tee off in the $100,000 Stockton Sports Commission Classic at the Brookside Country Club in California.
