Winchester, Baltusrol triumph
Mother Nature wreaked havoc upon those competing in the final round of the Bermuda Easter Lily Pro-Am for Ladies yesterday.
Strong easterly breezes made holes 14 and 15 almost unplayable, however the female golfers withstood the challenge to produce a creditable display.
In the net division Winchester Country Club I, with Joan Hartnett, Dottie Fulton, Janet Olsen and professional Julie Rivers, held on to win by five strokes over the Hyannis Golf Club `Islanders'.
The new champions returned a 59 on the day for an overall score of 234 compared to figures of 57 and 239 for Islanders.
Ironically Winchester were forced to play the final round with just three players, but were not challenged by Hyannis, which could only make up two strokes on the overnight leaders.
Third was Team Storie which carded 59 on the day for a 24 1 total.
Baltusrol Golf Club, armed with the likes of team pro Cindy Ferro along with amateurs Lorrie Garfinkel, Karen Hobbs and Lynda Hedges, defended their gross title for the third consecutive year.
Their 68 yesterday gave them a 274 total and a three shot edge over Chevy Chase, which produced the day's best round of 67.
Third, a distant 18 strokes of the pace, were Cedarbrook at 292.
