Oakland wrap up Pot title

extended it by another stroke yesterday to carry off the 19th annual Lobster Pot Pro-Am title at Castle Harbour.

Led by professional Wheeler Stewart, the Oakland, Maryland club finished the 54-hole event with a two-ball-best-ball score of 127 for a 374 total. That left them eight shots clear of Massachusetts teams, Woburn and Bedrock on 382.

Oakland, whose team included Pat Wirt, Phil Raugh and local player Johnny Perreira, made their big move during the second round on Tuesday, leaving their closest rivals battling for the runners-up spot.

In the end that honour went to Woburn's foursome of professional Paul Parajeckas, tournament host Fritz Reiter, Danny Fagundo and Ed Krug as they edged out Joe Carr's Bedrock team on retrogression.

Fourth place went to Feather Sound CC on 386.

The 36-hole gross division was wrapped up on Tuesday by Tim Conley's Rosemont team from Akron, Ohio.

Their 277 total was four better than second-placed Avila while Desert Mountain finished third on 284.

In a special one-day pro-am yesterday for those teams that missed the final round cut, the field's only Scottish team, Cathkin Braes GC pipped Canton GC on retrogression after both carded net 127s. Meadowbrook GC took third on 131.

Victory in the 54-hole Valentines Mixed Foursomes Pinehurst tournament went to Lesley Watson and James Madeiros yesterday when they carded a final round 51 at St. George's to defeat Irene and Douglas Brown by the narrowest of margins.

The Browns had yesterday's low net of 50 but finished just one back of Watson and Madeiros -- 162 to 163.

First day leaders Joan Hartnett and Michael De La Hunty finished in third place on 168 after carding 53 yesterday.

In the gross division, Terri-Lyn Calderon and Charlie Hartnett ran away to an eight shot win, finishing on 217 compared to Watson and Madeiros' 225. A further ten shots back on 235 were Mimi Atherden and Harry Freeman.
