Roads flood as heavy rain hits the Island
Torrential rain caused road flooding and treacherous driving conditions across the Island yesterday.
Over a third of an inch of rain fell during the course of the afternoon. While more than two inches of rain fell between on Saturday night and into Sunday morning. The downpours provided plenty of tank rain but also put the annual rainfall level even further above the average by November.
Michelle Pitcher, a meteorologist at the Bermuda Weather Service, said 2.17 inches of rain was recorded between 8am on Saturday and 8am on Sunday, with prolonged and downpours during the night.
Yesterday, a further 0.67 inches of rain fell between 8am and 8pm, bringing the recorded rainfall for the previous 24 hours to 2.84 inches.
So far this year more than 60 inches of rain has fallen in Bermuda. The average annual rainfall by November 9 is just under 50 inches. More than 14 inches of rain fell in August, setting a new record.
