Place to go: The Bermuda Marathon Weekend has been highlighted in the US magazine Northwest Runner

A US magazine has shone a spotlight on Bermuda’s International Marathon Weekend with a three-page feature.

The article in Northwest Runner, a monthly magazine based in Washington state, praises the Island and its friendliness during the annual running festival, which takes place in January.

Written by US athlete Ray Leone, who has competed in the Island event a number of times, the feature is titled Racing the Bermuda Triangle, and focuses on the triple-event challenge that incorporates the Front Street Mile, International 10K and the either the full or half marathons that round off the event.

Mr Leone writes: “During the race weekend an excitement is felt in the air that’s similar to that experienced at races like the Boston Marathon. Runners can also feel a bit Olympian as they’ll see their names in print — The Royal Gazette publishes the names of all the runners.”

He also highlights the attractiveness of the Island as a winter destination, and the social events that surround the weekend of running.
