Athletes rewarded for success at major Games
Six athletes have received a combined $23,500 for their medal exploits at the Commonwealth Games as well as the Central American and Caribbean Games.
Jack Harvey topped the list with $6,500 for his exploits in the pool in Dominican Republic, with $4,000 for winning silver in the 100-metre backstroke and $2,500 for clinching bronze in the 50 backstroke.
Sailor Adriana Penruddocke has been rewarded with $5,000 for securing gold in the women’s one-person dinghy.
Jessica Lewis, Bermuda’s only medal winner in Glasgow, where she finished third in the T53/T54 400 metres, got $4,500.
Sailor Sebastian Kempe, high jumper Sakari Famous and triathlete Tyler Smith got $2,500 apiece for winning bronze in their respective disciplines in Santo Domingo.
“The Government of Bermuda congratulates our athletes following their outstanding performances at the 2026 CAC Games in Santo Domingo and Commonwealth Games in Glasgow,” the statement read.
“Under the Government’s Outstanding Athletic Performance Incentive Programme, the medal-winning athletes are eligible for a combined $23,500 in performance incentives.
“Congratulations to all of Bermuda’s athletes who competed and represented the island with pride and distinction.”
In 2023, five athletes were recognised for bringing home six medals from the CAC Games in San Salvador and Dominican Republic.
