Boat diverts to St George’s

A sailboat was forced to divert to the Island after its Captain was injured en route to Grenada.

According to a spokesman, the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a call from RCC Norfolk on Thursday advising them that the Captain of the S/v Adesso, a 39ft US-registered vessel, had suffered a back injury.

“The Adesso was 207 nautical miles North West of Bermuda when alerted,” the spokesman said.

“RCC Norfolk advised that the sailing vessel will proceed to Bermuda for shelter and medical assistance.

“A 12-hour communication schedule was kept with the Adesso via satellite telephone, until she was within VHF range (30 to 40 miles).”

The Adesso arrived safely in St George’s at around 10pm on Saturday night, guided into harbour by the Spirit of Bermuda.
