hotel entered pleas of guilty to two of the charges he faced yesterday in Supreme Court.

Herculano Arruda, 29, who is represented by lawyer Marc Pettingill, pleaded guilty to assaulting Charlotte Banzer with intent to commit robbery and to entering a dwelling house with intent to commit a felony.

Arruda maintained his not guilty pleas for the other charges while his co-accused, Michael Allan Bell, 40, maintained his pleas of not guilty.

The men are also charged with assaulting Joseph Banzer with intent to commit a robbery and having their faces masked with a stocking with intent to commit a robbery.

Crown counsel Wilhelm Bourne reserved the right of the Crown to proceed with the other counts that Arruda is facing and if this position changed, he continued, he would notify the court.

Mr. Pettingill asked for a social inquiry report to be prepared for his client.

Bell is represented by lawyer Archie Warner and is further charged with unlawfully assaulting hotel night manager Mark Browne and causing him bodily harm and carrying a knife with intent to commit a felony.

Chief Justice Austin Ward ordered the two men to return to court on October 1 for mention. He said a sentencing date would be set for Arruda at this time.

The offences allegedly took place on November 27 at the White Sands Hotel when Mr. and Mrs. Banzer were attacked in their room by two masked men around 9.30 p.m. after answering a knock at their door.

The middle-aged Ohio couple suffered minor bruises, while Mr. Browne suffered cuts to his head.
