Guido Verrillo, 31, said he was guilty of three charges of obtaining money from the companies, one of attempted fraud and one of making a false report.

He asked for two other offences to be taken into consideration.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis read out the charges which started on July 27, 1989, when Verrillo, of Mingston Lane, Devonshire made a report to a Police officer that a person had committed an offence, knowing that it was false.

Soon after Verrillo, who is also a top triathlete in Bermuda, was charged with obtaining $3,500 from Bermuda Fire and Marine Insurance by falsely making a claim that a pedal cycle had been stolen.

In March 1991, he said luggage and camera equipment had been taken, worth $3215.95, and claimed the money from Freisenbruch-Meyer Insurance.

In December of the same year, he visited Argus Insurance claiming $2,509 worth of luggage had been stolen.

Then in January of this year, Verrillo attempted to obtain $1,625 from BF&M Insurance claiming camera equipment had been stolen.

Defence lawyer, Mr. Wilhelm Bourne asked for the case to be put over for three weeks so he could prepare details of Verrillo's character.

Prosecuting Sgt. Peter Giles said it would have a large bearing on the outcome of the case if retribution was made.

Verrillo was bailed for $2,000, and his travel documents have been confiscated, until his next appearance on Monday, April 19.
