Smith out front again

master's champion Sylvester Jean Pierre to clinch the Ed Sherlock five and quarter mile road race yesterday by four seconds.

Smith, who also won the North Shore Five Miler last weekend, completed the course in 29 minutes, 40 seconds. Jamal Hart came in third in 30:03.

Lynn Patchett was the leading woman, finishing 17th overall in a field of 75 in a time of 34:41. Georgia Belboda was the second woman to finish, her time of 35:39 putting her just seven seconds ahead of Glennis Butterfield.

Mark Perry's time of 30:16 was good enough to give him third place in the 16-39 male category and fourth overall.

Robyn Peck was the first female in the master's category, clocking 41:31, while Oliver Darrell finished in 37:06 to claim first place in the 50-59 men and 27th overall.

Ludwig Cann's time of 48:31 gave him top position in the men's 60-69 age group. The junior race over three and quarter miles was won by Coyatito Smith in a time of 21 minutes and eight seconds. He finished just over a minute ahead of his nearest challenger, Sheldon McKenzie.
