The UK is an untapped market

Dear Sir,It was good to read in Wednesday’s Royal Gazette that a fresh approach is needed for tourism. We are ignoring a huge market in Great Britain that should be encouraged.I spoke to two visitors from Devon on Monday, and they told me that they had been unable to find anything out about Bermuda from two travel agents, and were finally driven to use the internet.Maximum results with minimal cost would be to print thousands of colourful brochures about Bermuda and send them to our London office, with instructions to distribute them to all travel agents south of London, for a start. It would give them something to do.A one minute documentary in prime time TV, and an ad in the travel section of the Sunday Times would help. The Brits are starved for sunshine, and with direct flights from Gatwick almost every day, it does not make sense to ignore this market. It is also high time we stopped beating about the bush and allowed all shops to open when they like and for as long as they like. As for gaming, if we ever hope to attract new hotels, this is a must. If we want to keep our cruise ships we had better let them open their casinos after 9pm. Why ever not? Let’s get on with it.E RABEN
