An art gallery opened an online photography exhibit today to showcase the work of a Peruvian-born photographer.Light Spectrum, organised by the Black Pony Gallery, will highlight the art of Teresa Kirby Smith during a “dramatic story of light and colour”.Ms Smith, who studied photography and fine arts in New York, is known for her abstract colour photography with a digital camera and black-and-white still shots taken at night with a film camera.She said that she relied on the time of day and several factors, such as coloured water or ice, to create the scenes she wanted to capture.Ms Smith, who lives in Bermuda, added: “It requires patience as well as being spontaneous. “There is plenty of creative freedom in my work — there are many happy accidents in photography.”Ms Smith has had her work shown in Bermuda and the United States and in several other online exhibitions.She was also the winner of the 2013 Charman Grand Prize at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art and has been featured in the Bermuda National Gallery Biennial exhibitions between 2012 and 2018.Black Pony Gallery showcases contemporary visual artists from the Atlantic region who seek to challenge the narrow perceptions of “island art”.The gallery represents 11 artists in Bermuda and one artist in the Azores.Light Spectrum will feature 13 pieces of artwork and run until June 1.To see the art gallery, visit: https://www.artsy.net/lisa-howie-projects
