New use for an old space

Pier Six on Front Street in Hamilton has been renovated just in time for today’s arrival of the cruise ship Silver Whisper.

Renovations that began last month upgraded the building, creating a new arrivals terminal on the lower level, while he upper level has been transformed into an events space named, Pier Six Harbour Rooftop.

The newly enclosed venue will hold more than 700 people, become the new home to the City Market, and, it is hoped, will increase the City’s indoor rental venue options.

“We are very pleased with the look and feel of this important city venue,” City of Hamilton Mayor Graeme Outerbridge said. “It has undergone a metamorphosis and become a beautiful location to hold events on the water’s edge in the heart of Hamilton.”

Other events planned for the new space include the ILS Convergence 2013 Conference on November 13 and 14, while the City Market will have its grand opening on November 16.

Whitefield Group Ltd initially approached the Corporation of Hamilton about tenting the space, and company president Suzie Pewter called the partnership ‘a perfect example of collaboration between the private and public sectors’.
