The scope of Bermuda’s mutual legal assistance with other countries is being reviewed by the Attorney General’s Chambers.AG Mark Pettingill said bilateral treaties undertaken by the UK were being examined with a view to having them extended to Bermuda. However, the Island’s legislation must also be reviewed to ensure that all obligations can be met, Mr Pettingill told MPs.The “very complex and time consuming process” could be streamlined by using stand-alone legislation to implement the treaties, he said.
