Cleveland’s Allan Douglas Jr is gunning for maximum points in the match against defending champions Bailey’s Bay at Sea Breeze Oval tomorrow.Cleveland are currently sitting in fourth place in the standings behind leaders Willow Cuts, Southampton Rangers and St David’s, while Bay are one spot back having played one less game.It’s a crucial match between the two title contenders who have both lost once and can’t afford to lose again.“Every game you go into you want to win, and personally I’m confident that we can get a result. If we win it not only puts the pressure on Bay, but the likes of Willow Cuts and Rangers who we lost to,” he said.“St David’s are the other team to get across but we need to remain focused throughout the game in order to achieve our goal.”After the match against Bay, Cleveland face Flatts and Warwick.Douglas believes that maximum batting and bowling points will determine who will win the title this year.“Treadwell (Gibbons) is in form with the bat, while the like of Dennis (Musson) and Tamauri (Tucker) are doing well with the ball so we are in pretty good nick and just need to not get ahead ourselves,” he said.“Matches are won and lost on the field but at the same time you have to know what needs to be done in order to get the maximum out of the game. Bonus points are always important and in the end it may come down who gets the extra points to put themselves in a position to win.“We look to bat first and get the batting points in order to rectify any loss later down the road. If you lose to one of the bigger clubs but have the bonus points to fall back on then you are OK in terms of not losing much ground.“In crucial moments of the season, especially in the middle of the campaign when you are trying to put yourself in a position to make a run for the title, you have to look to be accounted for as a player and everyone in our ranks is ready to sacrifice for the ultimate goal.”Elsewhere this weekend, Southampton Rangers welcome Western Stars to Southampton Oval, while White Hill Field will stage the clash between Somerset Bridge and PHC.St George’s and St David’s lock horns at Wellington Oval and league leaders Cuts make the trek to Devonshire Rec.The other match of the day will see Somerset entertain Warwick at Somerset Cricket Club.All matches begin at 11am.
