With Bermuda's number one player Nick Frost abroad, Dave Waltham lived up to his billing as the man to beat in the British American Insurance Company round
The veteran player finished with a perfect 7-0 record to top the tables ahead of number two seed Myron Piper. The pair were unbeaten with 5-0 records when they met in the sixth round in what would be the title decider. Waltham won that gruelling battle 18-21, 21-18, 21-19 and then beat Calvin Butterfield in his final game while Piper stopped Rod Forest.
Piper had earlier endured a difficult time with Mike Lindo in the second round but prevailed to win 14-21, 21-16, 21-19. Lindo came from behind to clinch third place over Craig Trott 10-21, 21-18, 21-10 after both had 4-2 records when they met in the final match.
The Billy Bee Trucking Challenge Cup final will be played between Old Colony Club I and Prison Officers tomorrow evening at Bermuda College gym at 7.30. It will be a best six of 11 matches.
OCC's top player, Frost, will be off the Island so Neil Slater is expected to fill the gap. Waltham and Lindo will complete the team.
Prison Officers may also be missing their best player with Derron Trott scheduled to be working.
The Island Satellite Systems Annual Youth Open Tournament will take place on Saturday at CedarBridge, starting at noon. The age groups are 7-11, 12-14 and 15-19 boys and girls combined.
