Man faces manslaughter charge after aunt’s death

A Southampton man has been charged with manslaughter in connection to the death of his aunt, 62-year-old Patricia Diane Roque.Paul Anthony Defontes, 48, was not required to enter a plea as the matter is indictable and must be heard by the Supreme Court.The offence allegedly took place on July 23, several days before her death.He remained silent throughout proceedings, with his lawyer Richard Horseman speaking on his behalf.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Mr Defontes on $20,000 bail with a like surety. As a condition of bail, he must report to the Hamilton Police Station twice a week.The matter is expected to return to court next week.
