July 17, 2012Dear Sir,It’s “Silly Season”. There’s a lot of rhetoric these days concerning the state of the Island/Country in the lead-up to the next general election. My perspective! Let us not forget the formation of the BDA (Bermuda Democratic Alliance). Also, the need for the UBP (United Bermuda Party) to rebrand itself. It was alleged that in order for the current/former opposition to be in contention in the next general election, they will need support from a segment of the black majority to win the Election. It was also alleged that, a plan to sway the confidence of the majority, by the UBP, that they must “adopt” a “new image”. Former UBP member Wayne Scott went on record to this effect. Consequently, he and several others severed ties with the UBP.It is my opinion, that the “plan” by the UBP was/ is to persuade/coerce, by design, members of the BDA to buy in to the overall scheme. We are all aware of the outcome of their conference. Since then, we have seen former (majority) UBP representatives placed in constituencies considered safe seats under the UBP Administration. If they are to be considered a “New Party”, why not put “new” representatives in the former UBP strongholds?
