Injury forces Carifta Games medal hopeful to withdraw
Carifta Games medal hopeful Jeneko Place has withdrawn on the eve of this year's regional track meet, The Royal Gazette can reveal.Bermuda coach Brian Wellman confirmed tonight that the top sprinter has pulled out of the event due to a nagging hamstring injury.“We had to withdraw Jeneko from the event due to the fact his injury was preventing him from performing to the level which he needs to perform at,” he said. “Obviously he will be greatly missed, but we have other talented athletes who are ready to go.”Place was due to compete in the Under 20 boys 100 meters where he had also hoped to shatter the national record (10.6) currently held by Lovintz Tota.The promising sprinter demonstrated his enormous potential at the 2010 Carifta Games in the Cayman Islands where he won two silver medals.
