Antwan Russell has backed his team-mates to step up to the goalscoring plate in his absence when PHC travel to Devonshire Rec to clash with Devonshire Cougars tonight.Skipper Russell, the Premier Division’s top scorer this season, won’t play any part in the game, having been sent off in last week’s 6-1 defeat in the FA Cup quarter-final against Dandy Town.Zebras are currently five points behind Hornets with four league games remaining and are facing an uphill struggle to force their way back into the title race.Russell, though, has backed his team-mates to produce the goods.“There are a lot of players on the team that can come in a fill the gap that will be there because of my absence, but they can handle whatever is in front of them,” said Russell.“We have a winning mentality at PHC and we don’t like to lose, so we will go out and look for a positive result.”Defeat against Cougars will all but end PHC’s title hopes and Russell is starkly aware the men from Warwick can ill-afford any more slip ups.Remaining on their schedule are Boulevard, St George’s and Robin Hood, while Town face Rangers on Sunday, followed by games against Somerset Trojans, North Village and Cougars.“The mood doesn’t change because of the importance of the game, we know what has to be done and want to go and get the result that will see us apply pressure to the leaders,” he said.“It’s an advantage for us this time around playing before (Hornets) because the pressure will be on them to get their result with us doing what we have to do.“The game rests on our shoulders, not anyone else’s so we must look at ourselves.“Town play on Sunday so we can sit back and see how they do, they don’t have an easy game either.”Kick off between Cougars and Zebras is 9pm.
