Better weather is in store as Tropical Storm Sean moves off to Bermuda’s distant Northeast.The storm’s closest point of approach was around 6am yesterday. A storm warning was expected to remain in effect until this morning. The worst of Sean passed over the Island in the small hours of Friday, as gale to storm force winds buffeted the Island from the South. The causeway remained open, but the bridge was being monitored closely.Thursday’s American Airlines flights left the Island on that night instead of setting off yesterday morning as initially scheduled. On the ground, no flooding was reported but a Maritime Operations spokesman said the storm managed to catch a number of craft off guard.“A number of boats are arriving with weather-related stress damaged rigging and sails, and failed engines,” he said. “They were dealing with winds up to 55 knots and 18 to 20ft seas.”Seas remained rough along the South Shore last night, and a small craft warning was in effect. Storm force gusts were still a possibility as of early this morning, and residents are advised to keep an eye on weather services.As high pressure moves into the area, however, the Island is expected to see brighter skies with a few scattered showers over this weekend.
