More flights cancelled due to Hurricane Irene

Flights to and from Bermuda are cancelled for the third day running today due to Hurricane Irene. The JetBlue service coming in from New York’s John F Kennedy Airport [JFK] has been axed, as have the JetBlue flights to and from Boston. The Continental service to and from New York has been cancelled too.Hundreds of planes were grounded across the US over the weekend as the hurricane lashed the east coast. Flights to and from Bermuda operated by American Airlines, US Airways, AirTran, Continental and Delta were affected by cancellations over the course of Saturday and Sunday.Charlotte Bosch De Noya, duty manager at LF Wade airport in Bermuda, said yesterday evening: “JetBlue are planning to operate a flight to JFK in the early evening as the aircraft that flew in yesterday morning from JFK is still here. However, at this time I do not have a definite time or flight number.“Also, the American Airlines flight AA1443 to JFK is planning to operate as normal tomorrow morning with the aircraft that remained here last night and tonight.“I have not been given any information that airlines will be bringing larger aircraft or putting on extra flights to clear any backlogs. Unfortunately, the only information I can offer is to advise passengers to contact the airlines directly either online to rebook, or on the 1-800 numbers.”l See second story Page 2
