Kindhearted drivers signalled willingness to help those stranded by the bus strike by adorning their cars with pink and blue ribbons.The decorations, made in colours matching the absent buses, were given out for free by Demco florists. Marketing and graphic design specialist Marcia Currin came up with the idea.“I just felt that since so many people were getting onboard and offering rides, it would enable those waiting for a ride to identify those who are a part of this great initiative,” she explained.“And since people fly ribbons for Cup Match, why not for a good cause? Especially since we have so many people who depend on the pink and blue buses.”By 12 noon, Demco had given out 100 of the ribbons, with more people picking them up throughout the afternoon.“I just never expected that it would have become so big. Demco came on board and offered to give the ribbons out free and here you go, we now have a great grassroots movement taking off,” said Ms Currin, who originally hails from Guyana and is married to a Bermudian, Montell Currin.“My husband started to offer rides last night to those who were stranded as soon as I told him the idea, and my mother-in-law and stepson have been out taking people around as well. I am aware of entire families who are also doing this,” she explained.“It goes to show that within each of us we have that kindred spirit to come together for a worthy cause when there is a need. Since people love nothing more than identify with positive causes, it has been heart warming to see others embracing this concept and commenting how proud they are to be a Bermudian.“To me those ribbons speak so clearly to others about what the real meaning of ‘Feel the [Bermudian] Love’ really means.”
