Students' video highlights risks of underage drinking

High school students hope an educational video they have produced will help to stamp out underage drinking. The S1 to S4 students have put together their own video about a teenager who gets drunk at a party then regrets her actions the next day.The students were responsible for all aspects of the ‘Living Loud and Clear’ video production, from writing scripts and acting to directing, as part of PRIDE Bermuda’s youth leadership training. The video will be shown at schools and youth organisations across the Island.Student Altonio Roberts said taking part in the video project had been “a life-changing experience” as the video had the potential to impact thousands of young people. He said: “Underage drinking is a big problem. The people I hung out with went drinking every weekend.”A recent PRIDE survey found that 66.9 percent of Bermuda’s students had tried alcohol and 20 percent of them admitted to at least one episode of binge drinking within the last two weeks. The youth leadership team included students from Impact Mentoring Academy, RHM School House, Home School of Excellence, CedarBridge Academy and Berkeley Institute.Useful links: http://vimeo.com/20023591, http://vimeo.com/20024627,http://vimeo.com/21816782
