Hood can survive in top-flight, says Terceira
Robin Hood midfielder Teddy Terceira has backed his team to avoid relegation in next season’s Premier Division.Hood won promotion this term in only their second season in the First Division, finishing just one point behind title winners Trojans.Last season, their first in the second tier, saw Hood pipped to promotion by St. George’s and St. David’s who both beat the drop this campaign.“We came into the season with goals and promotion in mind . . . so to do that is a huge success,” said Terceira.“We would have liked to have won the league and it’s a bit disappointing, but the night we were scheduled to play Trojans it rained hard so the game was called off. Obviously you can always look for things to improve on and maybe we could have gone a bit further in the cup competitions, but on the other hand not being involved in the extra games gave us time to focus on our goal.“Our goal was to go up and now that’s sorted out it will be a motivating factor that we are in the top flight for the first time and have the bigger clubs to compete against.”The playmaker believes that with arguably the best coach (Andrew Bascome) on the Island, Hood can repeat the feat of last season’s promoted teams by staying up. To get that done, Hood will need to keep their core players while also signing a few new ones who can make an impact at the top level.“We have the best coach in my opinion in Andrew Bascome and his results speak for themselves, but we are confident that he knows what we need to do to be ready, both mentally and physically,” Terceira said.“We have to keep the core guys around and add some more talent that will help us in our quest for survival. Obviously we need to keep working hard and with our coach anything is possible. Certainly to stay up and maybe a cup run.“We are anxious to see how we get on, it’s very exciting for us to be in the Premier Division after two years, last year we just missed out and now we are there so I’m very excited and I know there’s a lot of work to do.“It’s a wait and see thing right now, it will be a long summer, we will start pre-season earlier as normal and go from there.”
