An explosion of talent!
Have you ever been to an upbeat talent show full of excitement, laughter, shocking moments, and unbelievable talents put on by a Middle 3 Dance Class?
Well if you haven't, you must have missed Dellwood Middle School's Talent Explosion on December 14 on the school's campus.
The programme included singing, acting, magic, and rapping to name a few talents. There was such an amazing array of talents on display that the crowd was astonished. The Talent Explosion was a major success. The hall was packed with students, teachers, parents, and people from the community.
This event was put on by the M3 Dance Class taught by Suzette Harvey as part of a class project. We accepted the challenge and were optimistic of success from Day 1.
This was definitely not as easy as we thought it would be. Planning and preparing the Talent Explosion was a fresh and exciting journey for us that required a tremendous amount of teamwork.
We started by placing posters around the school to see who was interested in participating. Then we set a date, although it was changed three times.
Next, our dance class had to write letters to go out to companies to ask them to help sponsor this event. We then had to organise the programme, gather all interested participants, and so much more. It was an unforgettable accomplishment once we saw everything come together.
We had judges from outside the school to avoid favouritism and to add intrigue. Mr. Frederick, the Social Studies teacher, was the dj who kept the crowd in a good vibe. The atmosphere itself was incredible. It was great to see everyone ¿ the audience and participants ¿ enjoying themselves.
There were 30 competitors in total, which was wonderful because people tended to drop out for various reasons as the date approached.
The Dance Class was well-supported when it came to sponsors donating fantastic prizes. Our sponsors included the iStore, Brown and Company, Digicel, Cellular One, Liberty Theatre, and Just Platinum. All participants were rewarded with Kentucky Fried Chicken at school the next day.
As far as the winners go, in third place was Prince Roberts who rapped the song "Ghetto Story". He was awarded with a Cellular One cell phone. In second place was Brandon Morris who brilliantly sang "Imagine Me". Brandon won a Digicel Phone. In first place were DeAzha Chambers and Ashley Cabral who wrote and performed an original skit about the strained relationship of a mother and daughter. They won iPods from the iStore.
This night was such a wonderful one that everyone who participated should be viewed as a winner because they all contributed to a very successful night at Dellwood Middle School. Those who missed this occasion surely missed out on an unforgettable night full of memories that will last forever.
