More than 180 view Purvis Primary's ninth Science Fair
Volcanoes, thermometers, a crane, rock candy and periscopes were on display recently in the Jessie Purvis Hall and the school library of Purvis Primary School.
On February 24 and 25, 2010 the school held its ninth annual Science Fair, and welcomed over 180 visitors during the two days.
All students were required to participate in the fair. The students were given topics to choose what they would like to research.
They were given two months to complete the assignments. The students worked hard to complete their projects at home.
The teachers gave support at school. Students took trips to beaches, farms, libraries, the Aquarium, BUEI, and many more places.
The students researched limestone, sand, animals, plants and other topics.
The Science Coordinator, Mrs. Crystal Lucas, said that she has been in charge of the fair for three years.
Mrs. Lucas stated that it is a lot of work but: "Everybody learns a lot about science and they have fun."
The students had to describe and answer questions about their projects to twenty-two judges.
There were many first and second place ribbons. Some of the exhibits were so good that they are going to the annual Agricultural Exhibition.
Parents, teachers, students and other family members were very proud of all the outstanding projects.
You could feel the excitement in the hall. They were snapping pictures, laughing and talking.
Some were even getting ideas for next year's science fair. If next year is going to be anything like this one, students and teachers can't wait for the tenth annual science fair!
